Murungo Ano Penga Inc. / African Fine Art and Home Décor Gallery
Murungo Ano Penga Inc. / Murungo Gallery and our Zimbabwean partners
are dedicated to the promotion of fair and equitable trade with hundreds
originating from the Zimbabwean Shona People.
Originating over 2,000 years ago, these remarkable vestiges of human spirit,
captured forever in stone, came to world attention during the mid-1900’s.
Passed down from elder to youth, Shona Sculpture evolved gracefully through
hundreds of generations. As an art form, it is part of the most prominent
contemporary movement ever to emerge from the African continent.
With a base and wholesale warehouse in Harare, Zimbabwe, Retail Gallery
and Wholesale Warehouse in Edmonton, Canada, Murungo Ano Penga Inc. is
dedicated to the vigorous promotion of these genuine African masterpieces
- and with them - the magnificent character, culture and soul of the world's
oldest civilization.
Since 1999 Murungo has been and still is the ONLY actual direct buyer,
exporter out of Zimbabwe and importer into CANADA of Zimbabwean Shona
Stone Sculpture on a continuously large scale based in both Zimbabwe and
Canada, (excluding Shizar Imports of Vancouver) with all our buying being
done personally by Shaun O'Brien. With each piece being hand picked, we
can guarantee our top quality product and service to our customers with
each and every piece we carry. Shaun deals personally with ALL artists
we represent and therefore knows our product inside and out. Other Galleries
will claim to have done the work themselves or to have personal contacts
buying for them, when in fact they are buying from agents on the ground
and have never directly dealt with any of the artists they claim to represent.
If one ever wants to know if your gallery actually deals with the artists
on the ground we only have to ask for maybe a picture of them with their
artists and the pieces in stock, maybe some video, or just a story for
what the day was like when they bought a specific piece. We find this
misconception very unfortunate and feel that despite whom one may buy
form we are all doing our part in promoting this amazing work and should
respect that fact and give the proper credit to the actual people who
deal with these amazing artists.
Supplying North American markets with authentic African art allows us
to support a new generation of Shona artists with a stable income despite
their region's rapidly deteriorating economy.
We distribute an impressive variety of true African treasures via retail
Gallery, Website and wholesale sales, corporate leasing, and corporate
gift giving services.
